Small talk

Scientists at the Bell Laboratories in USA have developed a tiny, pyramid shaped microphone directly on a silicon chip. This microphone is about 100 micrometres in size. The researchers have built a minature radio-frequency filter (like those used in cell phones) and another component called an inductor. The three components can all be built on a single chip which will lead to a tremendous saving in weight and size for communication equipment.
