China will soon set up a reserve for the endangered Siberian tigers. According to the us -based Wildlife Conservation Society (wcs), the protected area called Hunchun Reserve will be set up along China's border with Russia. The wcs , which is helping China to establish the reserve, recently marked the region as a "critical habitat' for the tigers. The initiative is the beginning of a long-term process of reviving the country's tiger population. "We have large tracts of intact forests and if we protect wild prey populations, the tiger population will naturally recover,' said Endi Zhang, wcs country programme director in China. The reserve would also house the Amur leopard.
