Till recently people in Southeast Sudan relied on broadcasts from the country's capital Khartoum or from London, uk for information about their own affairs. Finally a new newspaper, The Sudan Mirror, is being distributed freely by international aid agencies via the many aid planes that regularly cross the region.
Namita Paul, from India, has been named this year's OneWorld and MTV AIDS audio competition winner. The competition asked young people from around the world to produce audio or video pieces about the impact of HIV/AIDs on women and girls.
A Sattvik (pure) Traditional Food Festival opened in the second week of December in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Dished out here were recipes made using traditional knowledge. The fair was organised by the Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions, a non-governmental organisation, that propagates organic farming. The festival was also a meeting ground for over a hundred farmers, mostly from tribal areas.
