Protest over culling of kangaroos in Australia

Protest over culling of kangaroos in Australia As Australia's Defence Department contractors are preparing to cull about 400 kangaroos on a former naval site at Belconnen, in Canberra's north, animal rights activists are planning a last minute legal challenge to stop it.

A report released by the Australian Capital Territory (act) chief minister Jon Stanhope in the first week of March concluded that a cull of the native animals should be carried out without delay to protect lowland grasslands and threatened species living in the region. The cull will be carried out by tranquilising the animals with darts and euthanasing them with a lethal drug.

Meanwhile, the Wildlife Protection Association of Australia has handed the federal government a submission calling for the kangaroos to be relocated to New South Wales instead.
