Economy to spin faster on 3.5% farm growth
THERE may be good news for the UPA government which is struggling to maintain growth momentum and check the rising inflation. Secretary of the ministry of statistics and programme implementation (Mospi) Pronab Sen on Thursday said that agriculture sector is expected to grow at 3.5% during the previous fiscal against the estimated 2.6%. A day ahead of the release of GDP growth figures for 2007-08, Mr Sen exuded confidence that the revised estimates could see a 0.7-0.8% higher agricultural growth than the initial estimates, thereby pushing up the economic growth rate closer to 9%.
