As food crisis worsens, firms push GM seeds

As the world grapples with the worst food crisis in recent years, Firms like, Cargill, Archer Daniels Midlands, Hong Kong-based Noble Group, trading in grains are reaping profits. Its European competitor Syngenta is doing even better, declaring net profits of over $1.1 billion in 2007, up by 75% over the previous year. Both companies, US-based Monsanto and Syngenta are vigorously pushing their genetically modified (GM) seeds hoping that they will become acceptable now. GM seeds have often been accused of triggering unsuspected crop failures or pest attacks.
