Jute industry wants action against Bengal mills for Packaging Act violation

The jute industry has requested the Jute Commissioner's Office (JCO) to initiate stringent action against the West Bengal rice millers for packing non-levy rice in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bags instead of the mandatory jute bags. Rice mills in the districts of Bankura and Burdwan in West Bengal have been accused of blatantly violating Section 5 of the Jute Packaging Materials Act (JPMA) of 1987 and have been using 50 kg polypropylene sacks for brands such as Double Rose, Mayur and Butterfly.
