CHINA

New regulations regarding producing and using genetically modified ( gm ) farm products have been introduced in China. Under the new rules, companies will require government approval for conducting research and experiments on gm products. A committee has been set up to assess the safety of such experiments. Sellers of gm seeds, seedlings or animals will also need official permits. The rules even advocate mandatory labelling of such products. The introduction of these regulations is being considered very significant in a country that is the fourth-largest producer of gm products in the world.
