Cradle to grave

  • 30/03/2003

Cradle to grave An average of 12 women die every day in Nepal due to complications arising from pregnancy. Most of these deaths occur due to lack of access to basic healthcare during pregnancy, childbirth and at the post-natal stage.

These unpleasant facts came to light at a recent interactive programme organised by the Safe Motherhood Network, a local non-governmental organisation. Although Nepal has made some progress in reducing the infant mortality rate, there has been no significant decline in the neo-natal mortality rate. Experts feel that this will further increase infant mortality rates in the future.
