The state of forest report 2003

SFR 2003 comprises of seven chapters and a number of annexures. The introductory chapter gives historical information, highlights important features of the report, describes various concepts and explains several important terms used in this report. The chapter on forest cover describes methodology and results of forest cover assessment. The chapter three gives estimates of changes in forest cover with respect to 2001 assessment. Chapter four is devoted to mangrove cover. Chapter on tree cover describes the methodology and quantitative estimates of tree cover. Chapter six gives information on growing stock of wood inside and outside forests area. The last chapter on forest and tree cover provides forest cover maps, forest and tree cover data and other important statistical information for the country, states and union territories. It also gives district wise data on forest cover and changes therein for each State and UT.
