Asthma and cataract
Inhalers may lead to an added risk of acquiring cataract for asthma sufferers, according to a study conducted by the University of Sydney, Australia. A team led by Robert Cumming claims that 14 per cent of the people in age group of 47 years to 90 years, who use inhalers, develop cataracts as against five percent in the general population. However, they say it is more important to control asthma because cataract can be treated easily but not asthma. Till today, the source of asthma is not known ( New England Journal of Medicine , Vol 337, No 1).
