Research projects on the anvil
THE Corbett National Park in Ramnagar is now set to become a centre for research, with activities that include projects to improve the habitat, prevent forest fires and ensure that the Ramganga river has abundant fish. The Park authorities plan to launch the projects in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute, the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology and the Indian Remote Sensing Institute in Dehra Dun, and the Pantnagar Agriculture University and the G B Pant Institute in Almora. The Park authorities have also launched a bimonthly newsletter, which will be published alternately in Hindi and English and will focus on research. The research activities include the setting up of a monitoring station at Kalagarh by the Wildlife Institute and a study on the effects of an artificial reservoir on the local fauna by the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology.
