CONSERVATION PROGRAMME
Encouraged by the success of rehabilitation programme of one-horned rhinos wildlife officials of Nepal are planning a similar project for arnas (water buffaloes). The project is expected to be implemented next year, after the completion of a detail study. Wildlife activists had recently raised concerns over the dramatic rise in poaching of arnas even in preserved areas. According to a recent study, only 150 arnas are presently found in Koshi Tappu Wild-life Reserve, the only habitat of these animals, which is situated in eastern Nepal.
