Sustainable sanitation in India: examples from Indo-German development cooperation
Overcoming the crisis in sanitation and water is one of the greatest human development challenges of the 21st century. Success in addressing the challenge through a concerted national and international response would act as a catalyst for public health, education, poverty reduction and impetus for economic growth. It would give a decisive thrust to realization of Millennium Development Goals, the targets adopted by the Government as part of global partnership. This report describes the initiatives from the Indo-German development co-operation to India's effort to provide sustainable sanitation to all. It highlights the activities of different actors in the German Development Cooperation, which all contribute in different ways ad on different levels to achieve a common goal.
