Toward a transatlantic green new deal: tackling the climate and economic crises
Addressing the climate crisis and an array of other environmental challenges will affect virtually every aspect of the modern economy. There are, however, a number of core areas that are of particular strategic importance and will facilitate broader progress. Greening infrastructure, especially for transportation and electricity transmission, is one high priority. Another is rapid technological change. Incremental change may help reduce carbon emissions and other environmental impacts, but is likely to be insufficient in the face of urgent and systemic problems. This paper examines ways in which the current economic downturn is an opportunity to fight climate change while creating quality jobs.
