Hospital waste in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, is posing to be a health hazard for the people. Over 60 health institutions in Kathmandu produce 1,300 kg of hazardous waste every day. This hospital waste also mixes the 350 tonnes of solid waste, thereby aggravating the whole problem."This unmanaged waste can trigger an epidemic in the capital any day,' says Bhushan Tuladhar, an environmentalist and chairperson of Clean Energy Nepal. In December 2000, the Kathmandu Valley Mapping Programme brought out a report that 62 healthcare institutions in the valley were generating 1,312 kg of infectious medical and clinical waste every day.
