Pfizer cries unfair
Another controversy dedicated to Viagra! Pharmaceutical major Pfizer Inc. has decided to battle China's decision to revoke its patent on the product Viagra, granted in 2001. The patent was annulled in July 2004 on the ground that Pfizer had not provided full information about the product.
Earlier, some Chinese drug companies had filed a petition for the patent's withdrawal, alleging that Pfizer had not explained the use of the product's ingredients accurately. They said due to the patent they were having problems in making their drugs with the same ingredients. In August 2004, they announced that they would produce a generic version of Viagra. Pfizer argues the information companies seek is not needed. Also, the information was not requested for when Pfizer applied for the patent.
