Draft E-waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2009
The Central Government, in accordance with the objectives of the National Environment Policy, 2006 and to address the sustainable development concerns considers it necessary to regulate environmentally sound management of waste electrical and electronic equipments, hereinafter referred to as e-waste, which are generated from the manufacture and use of electrical and electronic equipments. In order to protect the environment and human health from potentially harmful effects of e-waste and to facilitate reuse, refurbishment and recovery of useful materials by environmentally sound recycling, thereby, reducing the waste destined for final disposal, and to provide incentives for reduction in the use of hazardous substances by adopting green design, the Central Government hereby proposes to make the following draft rules.These rules may be called the E-waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2008. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
