DIRTY WATER

Pollution has turned the 50-km stretch of the Arabian sea at Karachi into the country's most polluted, endangering human and marine life, say scientists. Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, pumps the raw sewage and industrial waste to the sea. Shahid Amjad, director general of the National Institute of Oceanography, says that industrial and municipal wastes flow into the sea mostly through the Malari and Lyari rivers. Studies reveal that enormous quantities of heavy metals from industry are flowing to the Arabian sea.
