Unneighbourly act

Teesta Barrage, the largest irrigation project of Bangladesh, is in jeopardy. The construction of five spars by India one kilometre upstream of the Teesta is reportedly responsible.

Officials claim that water from the river directly hits six points of the barrage, intensifying erosion in the area. Some 20,000 families have already taken shelter on an embankment after losing their homesteads due to the river erosion.
