UK won`t meet CO2 emissions reduction target

UK won`t meet CO2 emissions reduction target The uk will not be able to meet its carbon dioxide emissions reduction target of 20 per cent by 2010, says a recent report. The report, UK Energy and the Environment, by think-tank Cambridge Econometrics, says the uk will only be able to reduce emissions by 12.75 per cent by 2010. Although this will meet the country's Kyoto Protocol targets, it will miss the uk government's target. The government will also miss its 10 per cent target of producing electricity from renewable energy sources, achieving only around 5 per cent. "The report provides a reality check to the government's rhetoric on climate change. Without stronger policies the goals for 2020 will not be achieved,' said Paul Ekins, senior consultant to Cambridge Econometrics.
