Ban on plastic bags

Ban on plastic bags kerala government has decided to impose a ban on the use of plastic bags in the capital Thiruvananthapuram. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the non-biodegradable nature of plastic.

Furthermore, says city mayor V Sivankutty, it will pose a big problem for a new garbage treatment plant being set up to produce bio-fertilisers. Banning plastic bags will be the best way to ensure that people use other alternatives.

According to the mayor the ban would along with helping in avoiding pollution will also generate employment and income for poor women involved in making paper, jute or straw bags, for instance, in the small scale sector.
