Infrastructure development and beyond: exploring the scope for sustainable livelihood support under NREGA

Considering the potential of works carried out under NREGA for strengthening the livelihood resource base of marginalized groups of people provides good linkages with other development initiatives so that the coordinated work can lead them for sustainable livelihood support. Long term benefits and sustainable development are however possible only when multiple inputs converge and impact the life of people and its environment holistically. Recognizing the need to learn from work carried out under the NREGA in one of the tribal dominated Blocks through systematic assessment of its effectiveness in the context of sustainable livelihood support at community level, AFPRO has carried out this study in Chainpur Block, District Gumla, and Jharkhand.
