New insight
The physicists at Los Alamos national labs in US have announced a large amount of new data from the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector. This data supports their earlier claim that there are neutrino oscillations between different kinds of neutrinos. With 22 events in which the group observed evidence of oscillations, the scientists are fairly confident that the results now are robust and there is certainly new physics involved in the process. The best estimate for the mass of the electron neutrino is about 0.5 eV, making it the lightest massive particle, but heavy enough to make a substantial contribution to cosmology ( Science , Vol 272, No 5263).
