Tidal wave kills 26
a tidal wave along the Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh has claimed the lives of at least 26 persons. The death toll is expected to rise.
The wave has also caused large-scale destruction. Every single bridge on the Siang was destroyed and the sand brought down by the river has buried tall tress on both sides of the river bank.
The origin of the massive water burst seems to lay across the Himalya, in Tibet, according to government officials in Itanagar. There appears to have been a massive landslide on the Tibetan side, which might have been caused by a powerful cloudburst, they added.
According to the government officials the disaster could have been averted if the Chinese, who administer Tibet, had informed the Indian authorities regarding the meteorological data about the conditions prevailing in the southeast Tibet and the dangers building up.
