Decaying, yet purifying

Scientists have proved that decaying leaves, known for their efficient removal of toxic metals like aluminium, nickel and cadmium from water, are also capable of partially removing lead from polluted water (journal of Environmental Sciences and Health, Vol A 29, No 10).

The int0action between lead ions and decaying leaves is mainly an adsorption method. Factors affecting the removal process include concentrati6n of lead ions and concentration of leaves. Poplar leaves were found to be the most efficient in removing 1ead from water.
