BOOM TIME
If the present birth rate continues, Pakistan's population will grow by leaps and bounds and by the year 2050, it will rank third behind China and India. This has been projected by a study carried out by Washington-based Population Action International. The present population will triple to 381 million in just over 50 years unless a dramatic change occurs in the social and sexual attitudes of the people. Lack of access to family planning and health care and the low status of women account for the high growth rate, says the study.
