The US-based International Food Policy Research Institute has warned that while the food requirements of south Asian countries could double in the next 25 years, its natural resource base is likely to shrink further. The report titled Managing Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in South Asia, observed that the subcontinent's countries will have "to feed their growing populations on the increasingly restricted natural resources, with the added requirement of safeguarding the environment and the natural resource base.'
