Sustainability in tourism: a rural tourism model

The Government of India (Ministry of Tourism) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are implementing the Endogenous Tourism Project - Rural Tourism Scheme across 36 sites in the country, to set up alternative models of tourism which would serve to create sustainable livelihood opportunities among low-income communities living in rural areas (2005-2009). EQUATIONS was commissioned by UNDP to document and review the various processes and learnings from this scheme in order to strengthen this as a sustainable model for future endeavours on rural tourism in India.
