Nowhere to walk: Pune walkability survey

A report on the walkability survey undertaken to assess the pedestrian friendliness of the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India. The survey was conducted by Parisar on behalf of Clean Air Initiative (CAI) using a toolkit provided by CAI which was adapted from the Global Walkability Index toolkit developed for the World Bank.

 

 

 

 

This walkability survey was undertaken to assess the pedestrian friendliness of the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India. The study was conducted by Parisar on behalf of Clean Air Initiative (CAI) and was done using a toolkit provided by CAI which was adapted from the Global Walkability Index toolkit developed for the World Bank. The walkability survey consists of three components, namely a Field Walkability Survey, a Pedestrian Interview Survey, and a Government/Stakeholder Survey. Field Walkability survey consists of a physical assessment of the footpaths in the city. Pedestrian Interview Survey consists of interviewing people to find out their opinion on the pedestrian facilities and their recommendations if any. Stakeholder Survey aims at capturing the responses of government officials regarding the pedestrian facilities in the city.
