Geo-informatics for Forest Rights

The Government of India enacted The Forest Rights Act, 2006
(Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers -
Recognition of Forest Rights – Act) to give forest dwelling
scheduled tribes and other traditional forest dwellers the
opportunity to claim individual as well as community forest rights of
forest land. The Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRTI),
Pune has developed a GPS based system for forest land measurement and a software using satellite imagery for
forest rights claim verification under the Act for the intended population in the state of Maharashtra.
