The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Industrial Deve lopment Organisation (UNIDO) have launched a new website on the cost-effective means of phasing out the extremely toxic and ozone depleting pesticide, methyl bromide. The website www.uneptie.org/ unido-harvest provides information on the experiences and results of projects aimed at phasing out the harmful chemical. "Farmers who are dependent on methyl bromide should shift towards more environmentally sustainable agricultural practises. We have launched this website that can become an effective tool to help all stakeholders identify and adopt better alternatives,' said UNIDO's director general Carlos Magarinos. Meanwhile, the International Programme on Chemical Safety has started offering access to thousands of chemical safety documents free of cost on its website www.inchem.org . The programme is a joint venture of the World Health Organisation (WHO), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the UNEP.
