Tackling climate change
India with its diverse agro-climatic zones is particularly affected by climate change. According to the country’s initial national communication to the United Nations Framework on the Convention on Climate Change, the predicted impacts of climate change in India include a surface air temperature rise up to 4º Celsius by 2100, up to 30% decline in yield in rain-fed areas for some crops and an increase in incidences of extreme events, such as droughts, floods and cyclones. Since these impacts will strongly vary in its extent and form throughout the country, they require customised interventions in different states and regions to cope with these risks and to enhance the resilience of India’s most threatened population.
