Carry on drinking
Contrary to popular belief that red wine is more cardio-protective than white wine or beer, a study suggests that all of them have equal presumptive health benefits. Gary Friedman and his colleagues at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centre, Oakland, USA, have reached the conclusion after studying 42,306 men and 39,519 women who drank alcohol for at least once a month. Data collected by them support an inverse relationship between alcohol consumption and the risk of coronary heart disease. They say that each major beverage seems protective. However, beer was found to be slightly more protective for men than women ( Am J Cardiol , Vol 80, No 4).
