One of the four captive bred Siberian cranes released in the Keolandeo National Park near Bharatpur last year has died. The carcass of the dead bird has been sent to the agriculture university at Hisar in Haryana for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
To check the increasing threat of dengue and malaria in Delhi and its neighbouring states, strict municipal laws will be imposed against those who fail to remove stagnant water from coolers and other containers. The minister of state for health and family welfare, Renuka Chowdhury said that Thailand had already taken recourse to such laws to bring down its incidence of dengue fever.
In a bid to combat pollution, the Delhi government is planning to outlaw all commercial vehicles older than 15 years. Another law, where a pollution-under-control (PUC) certificate will be mandatory for refuelling at petrol stations, is on the anvil.
