Bones of contention
A partially mummified skeleton of the Spirit Cave Man lying in the Nevada State Museum in the US, is at the centre of a controversy. Recent tests have revealed that the Cave Man was at least 10,000 years old and several dozen artifacts found with it provide a rich view of life in the post-Ice Age world when human civilisation is believed to have begun. The mutmny could give leading clues to the identity of the first Americans. But just as experts are preparillg to conduct further studies, the museum is trying to ascertain the ethnic origins of the skeletons in its collection so that they can be restored to their native places as required by a federal law enacted six years ago.
