Dumping site
a 16.2 hectare-site for dumping hazardous waste generated from industries has been identified by the Delhi government. The site, the first of its kind in India, is situated on the Bawana-Kanjhawala road in northwest Delhi. The National Productivity Council ( npc ), has submitted an environment impact assessment report clearing the project. Four sites were offered as a choice in the Narela zone to the npc . The other three sites will now be handed over to the municipal corporation for developing them into sanitary landfill areas. The site will be used to dump the hazardous waste mainly from about 25,000 industries located in the 21 industrial estates all over the city. Some of the waste will also come from hospitals.
The projects as well as its implementation will have to be carried out by the environment department of the state government. Before notifying the area as a landfill site exclusively for hazardous waste, the government will have to invite objections from the public including the residents of the nearby areas.
