Honour for humanity anna hazare has been selected as the recipient of the 1998 care International Humanitarian Award. Hazare will be the second Indian after Ela Bhatt to receive the award. Peter Bell, president of care - usa , will facilitate Hazare with the award in Washington.

According to Tom Alcedo, spokesperson of care , the aim of the award is to raise awareness at international level about the people who have played a pioneering role in the development process.

Speaking at a special reception organised at the India International Centre, Hazare said that if you want to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, planning should have a bottom up approach where the village forms the focal point of development. The noted social activist has played a major role in transforming a poverty stricken village, Ralegan Siddhi, to prosperity.

Hazare expressed his desire to see reflection of Ralegan Siddhi in other parts of the country. He has planned to launch a campaign on right to information where people would be involved in the development and decision making process.
