Jaundice epidemic

Jaundice epidemic delhi is in the grip of a jaundice epidemic with over 300 cases of the disease reported so far. Of these, 140 had to be admitted to various hospitals for treatment. Delhi health minister A K Walia has instituted an inquiry committee to look into the cause of the epidemic at Prahladpur village in northwest Delhi, where the first cases were reported on March 27. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (mcd) has resumed the mobile dispensary service to the village and started distribution of chlorine tablets in the area. The fact-finding committee has been asked to submit its report after which strict action will be taken against erring officials, Walia added.

While the Delhi Jal Board found the water to be safe, the directorate of health services of the Delhi government found three to four samples contaminated. Meanwhile, mcd denied that any deaths had occurred due to the disease.
