Bike safety

Bikes are going to be safer. John Shortfall of Dublin, Ireland, has taken the airbag technology out of the car and put it in your average, everyday bike helmets. His new crash helmet contains a high-pressure gas cylinder and airbag shaped to envelop the wearer's neck and shoulders. The helmet is lined with an electrically conductive mesh, which is spaced apart from electrical contacts on the inside of the helmet shell. The impact of a crash presses the rider's head against these contacts and bridges an electrical circuit, this in turn triggers the release of gas to the bag, which inflates to protect the rider's neck.
