New aquaculture project

New aquaculture project an ambitious aquaculture project is on the anvil at Nayachar in Haldia, West Bengal. The state government hopes that the project will generate employment opportunities for the locals and give a fillip to the tourist inflow. The state government has embarked on this project because industries coming up in this region are not labour-intensive and this has created a piquant situation. According to sources, the state government will pump in Rs 20 crore to set up this project.

A modular fish park on a plot of 40 sq km is to be developed. There will be as many as 75 modules. The West Bengal government will keep 50 modules for itself and the remaining 25 would be given to private firms. Sources said the project would be a hundred per cent export oriented unit and provide employment to a large number of unskilled and semi-skilled workers.
