The Kerala High court has admitted a writ petition challenging the proposed 500-MW naphtha power project in the private sector. The project is to be set up at district Kannur with an estimated cost of Rs 1,750 crore. C Rajan filed the petition on behalf of the Association for Protection of Environment, Kannur. They say that the power station would pose threats to the ecology of the region. Rajan said that the project has been initiated without taking local people into confidence. He pointed out that the location of the project was harmful to the estuarian circulation of unpolluted waters of Valapatanam lake.
