HOTEL CONSTRUCTION
The Bombay High Court's Panaji bench has stayed the construction of a Rs 25-crore five-star hotel project on the Nagorcem-Palolem beach in south Goa. It is one of the many hotels in Goa that has been taken to the court for environmental violations. Prominent hotelier Lalit Suri's Diksha Holdings was setting up the hotel. "This is a significant case regarding violations of coastal zone regulations,' said a press note from the environmental campaign group Goa Foundation, the petitioners in the case. Judges said: "Sand dunes, which are Nature's line of defence, cannot be permitted to be bulldozed with money power.'
