CONSERVATION
The Delhi high court has issued notice to the Centre on a petition by the World Wide Fund for Nature, seeking an inquiry into the implementation of the court's earlier directives regarding wildlife conservation in the country. The court issued notices to the government and the member secretary of a committee appointed by the court to look into wildlife conservation-related matters. The committee had submitted a report on the wildlife situation in February 1996 with various recommendations, but since then hundreds of cases of poaching were reported from different parts of the country.
