Mmm... sewage
Thanks to a treatment developed by UK-based firm IBS Viridian, sewage plants can now smell sweeter. The treatment cuts the smell of hydrogen sulphide, the characteristic stench of rotten eggs which people living near sewage plants often find absolutely unbearable. A six-week trial carried out for West of Scotland Water found that the company's proprietary bacterial treatment, called VPHS, cuts production of hydrogen sulphide in the sewage sludge by as much as 90 per cent.
