TURMOIL OVER TOXICS
The furore over the import of toxic wastes has assumed serious proportions with the Supreme Court now being asked to direct the Union government to ban the import of all hazardous wastes. The Dehradunbased Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Development which moved the petition on October 16, has submitted that the the import of toxic wastes contravenes Articles 21, 27, and 47 of the constitution and also the Environment Protection Act. The two-division bench of justices J S Verma and K Venkataswami have now asked for more details on thevexingissue.
