Financial engineering as a means to support Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission
India’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) is a one of its kind country level initiative that aims to help achieve the intertwined national objectives of ensuring energy security for the country and bringing about sustainable and environmentally efficient growth through large scale deployment of on-and off-grid solar power applications. With a supportive policy framework in place, the rapidly growing Indian solar industry offers immense investment opportunities. However, the key to realizing the projected unprecedented growth would be access to affordable and appropriate financing. PwC undertook this study to analyse the financial aspects of the JNNSM to understand the projected demand-supply position of capital for meeting the Mission targets, identify potential barriers and develop solutions to foster robust public-private financial system to accelerate the growth of the Mission.
