COMBATING POLLUTION
The recontmendations of a high-level committee for containing vehicular pollution in Delhi have been approved by the Supreme Court. The apex court has warned the authorities to strictly adhere to the tune limits set by the panel. The committee, in its action taken report, had said that by April 2001 public transport buses should be increased from the present strength of around 6,000 to 10,000, The committee has said that the entire bus fleet in the capital should be converted to a single fuel mode on compressed natural gas (CNG) by March 31, 2001. It also said that by April 2000, no eight year-old buses would be allowed to ply on diesel, but only on CNG or any other clean fuel.
