CLEANING UP
Pakistan will soon benefit from an interestfree US $140 million loan from the Asian Development Bank to improve its drainage system. Under the aegis of a national drainage programme, problems of waterlogging and salinity will be looked into, which has affected about 14 per cent of Pakistan's 16.2 million ha of land. Protecting irrigated land and preserving the quality of surface and ground water will be other aspects of the project.
