Clean up act
the Central Pollution Control Board (cpcb) has published a study on management of municipal solid waste. The two year study was based on field surveys carried out in different towns and cities across the country. The cpcb has asked the state pollution control boards (spcbs) to direct civic bodies to prepare a time-bound action plan for proper management of municipal solid waste. Officials at the cpcb say that most of the spcbs have been unable to persuade the civic authorities to ensure proper management of garbage.
The board has suggested measures to improve the standards of municipal solid waste management in the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi areas. It has drafted a minimal national requirements (standards) for management of municipal solid waste.
